Currently work for a mid size public company (not apple) with $300K TC and 8 YOE In bay-area. Have an offer from a company in Dublin, Ireland for a TC of ~ €165K (110 base + 55 stocks/bonus). Motivation to consider the move is that we have been in the US for about a decade and want to try something new. Getting out of the rat race for at least a few years would be good. Being Indian, the visa/GC situation does not help here and immigration/naturalization in Ireland does not seem bad. Ireland looks like a good place to raise kids and travel opportunities around Europe is exciting. Wife works in tech and will need to find job there. Overall, do you think it’s worth the relocation? How’s TC for Dublin?
Average TC in Dublin among those I asked is around 100k. Restaurants in town are good, but lots of people smoke by the entrance. If you live in Bay Area, the weather will disappoint (like Seattle winter but prolonged).
Read up about their customs and convictions... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Savita_Halappanavar
Not a fan of the catholic ethos, but it seems like there were laws implemented after the unfortunate incident. Also Ireland is pro lgbt. It feels like the US is going backward in the regard.
I'd say it's great comp as per majority of the Dublin tech majors. You'll have better quality of living. May I ask you what's the company name?
The comp is excellent for Europe
I know xilinx is in Dublin... It should be it if you are in hw
Not hw, haven’t done that after grad school.
I lived in Dublin recently. DM me if you want to chat about lifestyle fit.
Could you please write more publicly about it here?
110k is as good as it can get for that experience in Europe. I’d not be too excited about Dublin though. It’s a small always rainy city.
This is a really good TC for Europe not Dublin. Assuming COL is similar to LON, this should make you very happy. Also since you say “we” I assume you have kids, Ireland (UK,Germany, etc) is a good place to raise kids. Just keep in mind, rents are London like.
