I want to ask for a raise, but technically the compensation for my role at comparable companies is about the same (sometimes lower). Still, for the tech industry and silicon valley my pay could be considered low. I’ve been working for about 1.5 years and I’ve been getting great feedback from my manager. This has been on my mind for a while. Should I go ahead and ask for the raise anyway?
Asking for a raise rarely works. You should ask for a promotion.
What are you talking about? Merit based raises happen all the time.
Yes they either happen or they don’t. You asking for it doesn’t change anything and isn’t worth the aggravation. At least not in tech companies, I don’t know how it works in banks.
