If Amazon interviews are designed to filter candidates based on how well they conform to Bezos’s 14 commandments more than by how technically sound they are, then Amazon must be a cult filled with technically incompetent people worshipping a self-proclaimed prophet. Am I crazy in thinking that? Edit: to all triggered Amazon folks, I am not saying it's a bad strategy to proclaim yourself a prophet, write up a few commandments and employ a bunch of folks who can follow those commandments without questioning too much. It's clearly working for Amazon. It's the A in FANG after all.
Yep. I drink the daily Kool aid. I build new services. I watch the stocks multiply. I stack the RSUs like it's 2009.
How many stocks have you vested if you don’t mind sharing?
By that logic, Google must be full of engineers who can code up Dijkstra's in their sleep but have no soft skills.
Spot on
Oh hi pot, meet kettle. 14 commandments by the way. Yes they over-index on them at times and it’s extremely frustrating when people abuse the leadership principles. Just wait til you work there and start worrying about your level and trying to figure out promotion and how to get an orange badge. It’s probably weirder than you realize, but not as inept as you might expect. And still probably the best, smartest place I’ve worked.

Shut up. You want the prime to be $129/yr or not?

Diss, Agree and Comb It.
It's unsettling when some one somewhere is thinking of my place of work in shower. Plain wierd.
Interesting question. Most Amazon folks I have come across still refer to those commandments.. I really wonder if one has to be in the cult to succeed at Amazon

Amazon still has technical interviews. Leadership principles are just marketing speak way of saying they want to see how you fit with company values/culture. But I can see why an Apple would see things through the lens of a cult.
Reportedly apple now has 3, lens, of cult, on back of the new hiphone
Right but when 50% of the interview is behavioral based on 15 principles written by the great philosopher Bezos, it makes Amazon look like it’s filtering for candidates who have the best herd mentality.
