Sick and Tired of Waiting in GC Line?

I am just soo sooo soooo frustrated ... No, I don't want to go back to India and I so badly want to quit my job and roam around free ... If only someone would listen to this guy https://medium.com/@chaudhry.hassan.afzal/the-curious-case-of-the-indian-green-card-queue-204aa1911faf I would have been long done with my GC if they changed the rule to something based on merit like this .. sighhh...

Have you asked yourself if you really want it?

Microsoft Tattle Jun 20, 2019

Why don't u want to go back to India?

Microsoft Tattle Jun 20, 2019

The question was to OP, so....

There isn't 10b people. Just 1b.

What is “merit”, money earned?

Salesforce mHzT05 OP Jun 20, 2019

a RESOUNDING YES ! A capitalistic society rewards one's utility to society via money - exceptions might be there.. but if I am that useful to this country that i pays me many times over the median income then why not keep me here permanently ?

Amazon TRuc81 Jun 20, 2019

Well it’s unfortunate that you think someone’s worth is dependent on their income.

Man, you never had to wait for GC

Microsoft Tattle Jun 20, 2019

Ok, OP I was hoping to understand ur situation more but this guy hijacked my response. My opinion on this matter is that u shud plan ur future thinking it Wud take u >40 yrs to get ur GC, if it happens before then great. Reason, I have been following this whole HR 392 like business since 2011 and I disappointingly feel nothing is going to change. There is no incentive for politicians here to do this for us but we can all hope. My point is if u want certainty then consider Europe/Canada. The other option is and I am going to follow this as well, work for a few yrs here, make good money and then move to india and live a rich and comfortable live. US is great but it has its many flaws. With money in india, u can live a very comfortable life and be close to family. However, if most of ur family is here then god help u.

Personally I’ve realised GC in US isn’t happening. Gave up on it albeit after waiting for too long! The only two other first world countries where you could get quick PR — Canada and Australia. One of them has bad weather and the other has no jobs. I’m stuck because I’d prefer being on a H1 visa then being in India — middle class life in the US better than rich life in India.

Microsoft Tattle Jun 20, 2019

@boringdude It's a personal choice and I respect ur opinion. I had the same opinion but it changed soon after having a kid. Life got difficult without family support soon but to each their own.

Roam around free and do what ? How would you make money ?

Salesforce mHzT05 OP Jun 21, 2019

I have enough to retire

Google UkHq61 Jun 21, 2019

How old are you ?

EPAM Systems ExplodingBanana Jun 20, 2019

Here's an idea - if you don't want to be "stuck" in a queue, don't apply, since you KNEW in advance there's a queue. Also, Indians are not just "waiting" here. They are working and, well, they don't have to live in India meanwhile so there's that.

LinkedIn boringdude Jun 20, 2019

If you don’t talk about unfairness, you can’t fix them. OP is well within us rights to advocate for merit based immigration without increasing total number of green cards and make the process fair for everyone: Isn’t it ironic in a country where even asking the ethnicity of an employee in an interview is unimaginable yet prospective immigrant employees are picked by country of birth.

EPAM Systems ExplodingBanana Jun 20, 2019

There's no "unfairness" right now. I don't know what you're talking about. India gets more GCs than anyone else. You do know that the H1b->GC path is used by over 190 counties in the world, right? Not just India. Indians are not the only people immigrating to the US, nor they are any more skilled or deserving than the rest of the world. In fact, there's evidence about the contrary. Removal of the GC country cap will ensure absolute and full monopolization of the H1b and GC programs. Right now they monopolize only the H1b.

What about a billion people in India barely surviving in their day to day lives. They are also Indian citizens but was not fortunate to be born from an upper middle class family which provides stable environment to focus on studying and getting a job in US. They were just not given a fair chance. Educated people leave to get a job in US and abandoned the people of India. Shouldn’t we give green card to those people based on how well they did despite all of the adversities? These software engineers are from a privileged family and would have had a good life in India even if they didn’t come to US. Software engineers in India makes 10 times more than average household in India. For fairness and development of India, smart hardworking people should stay in India to create more jobs for others. Give the quota to underprivileged people. Or give the quota to both. We will have a billion people from India eventually and can put our worried about Chinese taking over to the rest.
