Singapore permanent residence

I'm planning to move from California to Singapore. How long can I expect the permanent residence wait to take if I move on a PEP (salary needs to be greater than 12000SGD) vs EP? I'm trying to figure out if it is with moving to Singapore without a PEP. Context: another Indian frustrated with GC wait, and want to be close to family.

My sister in Singapore is having a hard time getting PR. She's been working there for 7 years. We're Bangladeshi not sure if it's different for Indians.

I understand it is based on the Visa (pass) and income. Do you happen to know what Visa she is on? I'm wondering if going on PEP would make the GC wait lesser.

She's in EP afaik

I think the salary needs to be greater than 18k SGD for PEP

18 when abroad, and 12 after moving to Singapore. https://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/personalised-employment-pass/eligibility-and-requirements

It's not just about what you earn. There are several other cards that you need to play right. If you are young, have a master's degree, recently married, have a son and social ties in SG; join the line.

Do you happen to know what would be the average wait time EP vs PEP visa? I'm a 30 year old swe, came to the US for Masters, but planning to relocate to Singapore to be closer to family.

Microsoft thatguyy Mar 6, 2019

Nothing less than 10 years if you are Indian. By that time, you would be 40 and it would be a straight No from their end. SWE is no more a special skill that they consider. They want highly skilled people in advance engineering domains.

If you have a son, you'll want to be careful of the compulsory military service (conscription). There's several penalties for avoiding that, so you want to be a little safe.

No I don't! But one of my reasons to move to Singapore is I'm hoping to be a cop or try something more interesting than a SWE!

Being a cop here won't be as exciting as in US

You’ll have to serve national service to be accepted in the police force as a career.

Thats okay be me. But the problem is getting the permanent residence. And going by these comments, even getting it on a Personal employment pass is not easy.😭😭

Go for the EP option. https://www.ica.gov.sg/apply/PR/apply_PR_who

Working is 9 hours per week day however living there be longer. I’ll personally recommend you to understand the culture and history of Singapore, not just for work/residency. 🙂

Chances of getting PR do not depend on your Visa status they depend on your country of origin, years spent in Singapore and social contribution

Microsoft tech.ladki Mar 10, 2019

Just to be sure, is there no difference than the EP visa and a PEP which is just for very high paying jobs? In terms of PR.

If you are from non desirable nationality there will be no benefit based on EP Vs PEP alone.
