Single people who live alone: I am new to the bay area and looking for housing options... unfurnished tends to be a little bit cheaper but I’m afraid I will be carrying around a lot of stuff. In your experience, is going unfurnished or furnished better?
If you're not getting a furniture budget as a part of your relo package, I would calculate cost of furniture (say, from ikea, cause it's cheap and reliable), divide by 18. Calculate which is cheaper based on that. 18 months is an arbitrary number of months -- your convenience/cost tradeoff might be different.
Unfurnished. You don’t want to move into an apartment with couch and mattress infected with bed bugs.
Unfinished. Buy IKEA-like furniture
This. And then when you’re done with them, it won’t matter because it was so cheap. You’d have gotten the full value from all of it. That’s what I did anyway... for every move
Unfurnished. Get entry range Ikea furniture or even better look up Ikea furniture on Craigslist.
Unfurnished and get movers in case you have to move. Buy your furniture.
Buy and sell from cl. Almost free
Thank you so much!!!!!! Super helpful
I've rarely seen furnished places. Usually short term. Probably for sex workers. I don't think you want to lay your head on a cum stained pillow. Better look for unfurnished and clean. Keep it minimalist and get some cheap Ikea stuff if you don't plan to stay in one place for long. I didn't furnish my bedroom until I had a reason. Slept on the couch. The moving cost will be higher than the value of the furniture.
Easy to buy own pillows and sheets.
You can hire movers to move a lightly furnished 1br for under $500......
