Sitting this cycle out

It seems like everyone within 2 degree of me is starting a company, raising some seed money, etc. On top of that, even new graduates are clearing $220k starting. As someone with a wide variety of experience and top performance scores (here and at AMZN), I feel like I am falling behind. Part of me wants to play it safe, buy a house and sit out this cycle u til after the recession hits. Another part of me wants to just start a company just to give myself a fat salary and hell, if things go under, someone will buy them and land a cushy VP role. Thoughts? It seems everyone else is more successful. 4.6 YoE/220k all cash

When the tide goes out, you’ll see who wasn’t wearing swim trunks. Anecdotally, it definitely seems like most people are making way more than they are worth these days at least in my network.

Don't compare yourself to others. This is futile. Compare the current version of yourself to the you from 1.5 or 2 years ago.

Good advice! How about when people are 🎣 5/hour in a nearby lake don’t wait for a single 🐠 all day in your pond?

I think I’m one of those people. But I save 60% of my income in case you’re right. Ride the gravy train while things are good, but put some away for a rainy day. Best of both worlds.

Don’t start a company to be rich. Starting a company has enormous risk - start it because you simply can’t imagine doing anything else. In tech, you become rich by “playing it safe” ie working in FANG.

'start a company just to give myself a fat salary, if things go under someone will buy them and land a cushy VP role' I want whatever you're on, bro. Must be some good shite.
