Hi all, I am an engineer in medical HW prodouct R&D side and want to move forward to PM. I think it would be benefitial to have a six sigma certificate but my current company does not use this method for product dev. Is there any one could give some guidances for this? I have 4yoe in the industry after my PhD and Postdoc. Thank you.
Six sigma is just a branded term that encompasses a data driven approach to solving manufacturing problems. It is a good starting point to take the course but you can surely learn the embedded concepts on your own, and apply them to your work. Ie. SPC, DOE, measurement system analysis, statistical approach to decision making, etc.
Thanks for sharinf your thought. Is there any good starting materials(text, course and others) for this? As you mentioned, taking the exam would not be necessary, still It would be good to have knowledge for the next step. Again, appreciate your tougthful comment.
Hm.. the six sigma course would definitely give you a good overview. But if you google “statistical methods of quality control Montgomery” there is a textbook that you can download there (the first PDF that shows up). That is essentially all the theoretical fundamental on six sigma.
