I wanted to know from experienced folks here what are the “must have” skills for a data analyst role? I’m looking to shift career, learning regressions and using R in my spare time currently. Also, where would maximum analytics jobs be? (I’m in New England) Thanks.
Sql,python(pandas,sklearn,seaborn) or r, js, tableau
If you want to stay in New England, I'd target Healthcare companies as the best income to Work/Life balance ratio. Learn SQL for sure, Python and R are definite pluses for Data science roles, SAS is on the way out but is the pre-clinical data analysis standard, Tableau is the most transferable visualization skill.
Once you get past basic SQL queries and joins what else is there to know that would be useful?
Case statements, window functions, date manipulation, stored procedures
SQL or to query tables is considered a great skill to posses. Req gathering, data validation techniques, acquiring business acumen(comes with time spent) and at the added bonus is to visualize the data in a reporting tool.
Thank you! I’ll work on SQL before I start applying for positions, in your experience though, are their enough available jobs for this role?
Tons of these jobs in Seattle area. I would stress that you should not discount a solid understand of business and ability to dig into the true ask.
