Seeing their decline with instagram’s rise makes me think it’s not worth working at Snap
About Snap’s future: https://www.rooftopslushie.com/request/Snap-Company-Prospects-207
Snapchat is still on the cutting edge of computer vision and AR. Still a cool place to work. Somebody will buy them if they keep declining
Who uses Snapchat? Genuinely curious
No, but only place in LA that I know that pays consistently high (not counting fang because they don't often hire local)
We gotta get outta aero and join FANG man
I grew up I LA and went to school here. Back then (quite a long time ago now) I refused to work in aerospace because it seemed too bureaucratic and building weapons sucks. I worked in SV tech for like 10 years and moved back to LA a year ago because I had a baby and wanted to live closer to relatives. SpaceX was actually one of the few places in LA to match TC (but I learned later it is mostly BS equity you can't really sell with a made up price) and didn't seem as stuffy as big aerospace. Turns out it's also a terrible place to work for people with families ...lol. I kinda knew that but I thought it was a cool place to work too. I got that out of my system now..:) Kind of want to get out of LA but barely have time to leetcode with work and family life taking up all my time.
They are in LA thus struggle to attract talent thus pay higher than just about anywhere else thus get top talent thus it is worth working for if comp is your main measurement. It seems like a lot of people use them to get a high offer and then get a better company to match it.
The pay is at FANG level with fair vesting schedules (every month). If you can get an offer, why not? TC is one of the best in LA.
What is your background OP?
My former boss is the CFO over there now. So much churn. That company is a dead duck in my opinion. He only took the job because his wife refused to move to Seattle so he was commuting from Seattle to San Diego every weekend. Company doesn’t innovate and is weak outside US. Going to be a fun March to the bottom. Should have sold to Zuck when they had the chance.
It's still worth 6x than what FB offered
Snap isn't innovating ? Man just look at everything we have released over the last couple years. Sure they don't cater to the demographic you are in but it serves well for our core demo. Moreover, things like ephemeral messaging, stories, vertical video, AR lenses and experiences and virtual identity and self expression(Bitmoji) have been industry defining. I think your opinion is mostly based on how our stock did last year which every company is struggling with these days. Our stock this year has done well and it's a sign of us maturing as a company. I'm not drinking the Kool aid here and in fact I'm moving to a new opportunity soon but it's due to other factors and not because the company is 'not innovating'.
