So many anti Amazon posts ?

If Amazon is so bad, why is it part of FANG ? Just because Kramer created the term due to market capitalization ?
Or is it because Amazon pays well and can pay in the FNG range ? (Even though perks are less)

FANG is an investment term. Like you suggested, Amazon is a part of FANG because Cramer decided to add it.

    Amazon pays nothing like FNG.

Shrug, Amazon matched my Google offer.

If you are L7 you are fine. But very few are at that level. I could be ic6 at apple and make 700k. But there are so few of them.

With stock appreciation lot of Amazon employees made more money than G/FB

Agree, Google is unlikely to beat what I make at Amazon, but I’ve been here a while and have enjoyed the stock appreciation

It’s all classic dick measuring. (I tried to be gender inclusive here but blind has apparently banned the equivalent word). The reality is that whether you work at FB, MSFT, AMZN, GOOG you’re in just about the best shape you can possibly be in as a Comp Sci major and are extremely mobile if you’re smart enough to impress in an interview. Netflix is different because they hire almost exclusively senior devs from what I’ve heard (must be a dream over there tbh).

Wait who said Amazon doesn’t pay like the rest? Well first of all you should not compare Amazon Seattle to Facebook San Francisco. Cost of living is lesser in Seattle and it also helps that there is no state tax. With that out of the way, I can speak for SDE2 level roles but essentially Google and Microsoft roughly had similar offers to what I make at Amazon (plus 20k but with some tough negotiating and multiple offers). Of course Google has some added value with its perks...the one where they pay for you to take courses seemed like legit value).

Facebook also pays the same in Seattle or bay area.

    Amazon:
    - 'F*NG membership' oscillates.
    - Pays well at higher levels (L6 & up); gotta strive hard to rise up the levels though.
    - RSUs/stocks help if you're patient cuz of the way they've risen last few years.
    - No perks..but oh well, adults can pay for their own food/laundry/haircuts..

    P.S.:
For 'F*NG' -> each one has its upsides & downsides..so no company is truly immune to criticism by someone.

On Blind, it's all about TC and prestige. FNG has the best combination of both. It's tier 1. Amazon, along with Microsoft, is tier 2.

A lot of people at Amazon made more money when stock growth was factored. So TC doesn't always capture the full picture. You could argue that people could just buy Amazon stock but when you consider that most people didn't do that, and that Amazon employees' RSUs were locked up and had already appreciated considerably before they could even touch them, all you're left with is prestige. Prestige is cool though

TC based on stock growth is not non argument because it's unpredictable. The consensus in the industry is that FNG pays the most in tech, period.

Yes, and despite that unpredictability I'm highlighting the practical fact that plenty of Amazon engineers ended up making more money than they would have at Google. I'm not saying that it means much with respect to your theoretical formula. Just saying it's an implicit factor that can undermine these 'tier lists' and show how they can be simply rooted in elitist drivel sometimes. People rush to defense when someone makes a reasonable observation. Amazon engineers made out like bandits.

I get your point. But there are other companies in the same boat as well: apple, amd, few companies with 1000%+ stock growth. Yet they wouldn't be tier 1 either.

Microsoft is second to Amazon by 12B, and GOOG is another 50B behind that and FB is WAY behind. The term is not about market cap - it was about growth.

Great on pay and being in FANG, but wait till you have an emergency, family members not doing well, kids sick or you sick then watch what happens

You probably had a shitty manager, can happen anywhere

I don't work there, I have great manager and recently dealing with my mom who is sick and my manager couldn't be better here at msft. Now watch what would happen had I been at Amazon. Heard what happens over there. Mine as well put mother in home as far as they are concerned

You can not generalize on the entire company, I haven't seen anyone let go for legitimate emergency issue. Speedy recovery to your mom.

Here is the thing, I am on east coast observing a friend going through things over there that make my mom being sick look like a hang nail and seeing how Amazon is treating them. No I can't assume whole company is like this, but damn they can be cold hearted during a family emergency
