I am as much worried about the money as am about the emotional drain/baggage divorces can cause. With details about one divorce case everyday on this app, does it even make sense to get married? Is being a lone warrior or live-in partner forever a better choice? Or is it still a small sample set that we are looking at?
Marriage as a legal institution is a fucked up thing. Go ahead and have a ceremony with your partner, if the two of you are religious then go through the rituals and sacrament, but do not make it legally binding.
If divorce scares you, then you’re too much of a b!tch to be someone’s life partner
Is it crazy for me to think that a life partner may be much different than a legally binding husband or wife?
If you can swing a live in forever deal, why tf would you get married?
What may be the reasons someone may not want a live in forever?
Irrational attachment to social norms. Wanting to switch partners now and then. Job switch leading to different cities, etc
Rationally speaking, marriage is a fucked up thing for a man in today's world. Divorce Laws are there to favor women in every country. However, living your life alone is not what every man is capable of without losing his sane mind. So getting a perfect partner to marry should be the realistic goal. But there is nothing like perfect partner. My take on this is, keep dating without any goal. If you happen to find a good partner then go for marriage. Otherwise there is no point getting married with someone for the sake of it. Still, it isn't a guarantee for a good married life till the end but odds are better.
Those laws are the proof that how badly women were treated around the world hence to protect them. And perfect partner as if you are perfect man! 🤔
Let's not get personal. @chiefchuck made a generic statement that applies irrespective of gender.
Divorce or not, marriage is a social sham. The sample set is obviously small on blind. So, not considering that it account. But, the general expectation of binding of people in the name of a social norm is borderline stupid at this time.
Infact, I think marriage is a brilliant concept at many levels. Society wise, it is way to have more organization. Individually, it takes a lot of time to understand and give in to someone emotionally. And marriage provides a solid base for that. I believe everyone can live without the other given a proper time to understand and empathize each other.
Tying up people to have a societal organization? To each his own but if a legal binding is the base of people staying in together, there are some real problems in that relationship.
Relationship takes ongoing efforts; people often get comfortable and neglect what it takes to keep it going / the fact that two people in a relationship are also continuously evolving/changing as their lives go on. If you were a startup founder, would you allow yourself not to start a business because the future risk of failure is too great? Once you have your own company, would you stop invest in new opportunities because you have a product? Marriage/relationship is not that different from this.
Brilliant analogy.
Getting married and starting up both involve risk - I agree on this part. I don’t think they are similar on the following: If a startup goes bad, you can cut your losses and shut it down. And start all over again. Divorce from a marriage on the other hand involves alimony, which at times can be for life. While alimony by itself is gender neutral, more often it is the man paying alimony. I hope more egalitarianism in pay and social power can drive alimony into obsolescence
It's a risky move, people do it when they're being blind or drunk. But hey it works out great for some.
Divorce isn’t an option in my marriage. So we don’t have to worry about it.
Minimize the loses, marry someone with a decent career and ambition in life. They will be busy with their career and won’t probably be bothered by a little tussle at home. That’s my personal observation.

SUPER small sample set you're looking at. Also, majority of divorces come from people who repeatedly divorce (ie. On their Nth divorce). However, I think marriages should be done with careful discretion.
