Splunk CTO / Chief of Staff

What's the reputation of the Splunk CTO and his chief of staff? They have been courting me, but I'm hearing mixed reviews.

Love their tech but no idea.on how they are on the inside. Their sales seem a bit disorganized though.

Toxic culture. High turnover. Many good Eng leaders left recently. Politics is out of control. He (CTO) is not liked by many eng folks. Abusive behavior that he brought from his days at yahoo. I’d pass if I were you! Sales org is even worse.

Thank you, that is helpful. Any insight on his chief of staff Dawn? I think the position would be working closely with her.

Don’t have many insights on Dawn but please read other comments below related to her.

CEO is a non-visionary Balmer-esque leader who disseminates the political shit show it took for him to take Godfrey’s position (after Sullivan had announced his retirement). Couple his lack of strategy/vision for Splunk with the number of new entrants trying to take market share in SIEM by offering more flexible pricing options and/or better products and you can start to piece together a timeline for how quickly Splunk’s demise will ensue. Good luck in your decision!

Wow - people are big fans around here! Who coulda known that anonymous internet commenters would be the worst? Seriously though, Tim knows his tech but did seem to bring some politics and preconceived notions from Yahoo. Dawn is a soldier who does what she’s told. My interactions with her have been fine, but honestly not something that would get me amped to do it day after day.

Thank you for the more well balanced view, I appreciate it. Any additional insight on Dawn? I heard that there are mixed opinions about here from a friend of a friend.

Unfortunately I’ve heard terrible things about her. Tim is great, fully agree with that. But she’s controlling, political, aggressive. She steamrolls over people and communicates in a rude and disrespectful manner. I’m all for a strong female leader, but she is no leader. Please note I haven’t worked with her directly. But her reputation clearly proceeds her.

Thank you, that confirms what I heard about Dawn Manley from some people at Splunk. I heard it from several strong / competent women, who get things done without being rude and disrespectful. My interactions with her also mirror the comments in this thread. I really like the tech, the TC, and the stock trajectory, but I'm having big hesitations due to Dawn's personality and reputation. Thank you all, and good luck.. maybe I'll see you at Splunk....

Anyone else at @splunk have any thoughts?

OP you should honestly just join and Game of Thrones her ass. I think there’s some type of bonus for that?
