What are some tips to be able to manage work and treatment together ? I would hate to have stress impact my treatment. Jobs come and go, and all stress is transient/ sometimes self inflicted. Still, am looking for some coping techniques/ simple hacks to get through the daily routine of getting shots done/ all the appointments that are due to occur this cycle for me.
Also remember to freeze your respective stuff, should you want to come back for a 2nd child (even if that is not in your plans right now).
Good luck... My sister has 2 children thru the miracle of IVF. I hope the best for you.
Wannabe dad here. Thanks for the advice
How much does ivf cost?
In MA it's covered by insurance if you have a documented fertility problem. If you are straight that means that you have attempted to concieve unsuccessfully for over a year. For us my wife's was covered by insurance because she had a super expensive test that confirmed infertility. My IVF was 7-10k/try.
OP, my memory is a bit hazy about the injections phase, but I remember it being stressful no doubt. You should work out a work from home policy with ur employer (mom to be) during the entire phase. As for reason I would not want to divulge it's for ivf, so i would quote a (BS) reason as "Severe back pain have to rest at home for 4 weeks" type of thing. Ur co workers have no business knowing ur reproductive issues. In fact, we didn't tell our parents or any single soul for that matter. It's strictly your business as a couple. Treat it as such.
Thanks this is really insightful. I was worried about what to tell my manager as to why I need leave for the egg retrieval and embryo transfer and 3 days after the embryos are transferred. I’ll stick to a reason other than IVF.
My wife and I both did ivf. She faked a vauge injury/illness (never lied but never corrected people's assumptions). After a year of false starts she ended up quitting her job and got pregnant through ivf 3 weeks later. I had to keep working when I was trying and wasn't successful after 3 rounds...so now we are one and done.
And yes, of course - may God bless you with (a) little one (s) :-)
Thanks wankhede
I did mine overseas as a vacation. It was so much easier to manage the daily injections. Once your ovaries start to get the size of oranges, you’re not going to want to move around much. It can be uncomfortable to walk around.
How did you manage the time off of work ? Were you abroad for the whole cycle ?
I'll let 12ab23xc answer this question but a few ideas for vaca: 1) Save up vaca for 2 cycles (just in case). Carry over from prev year is allowed in CA, work it out with your employer. 2) Medical leave. HIPA rules are strict so no one can ask details. 3) Loss of Pay for the portion where you don't have the days 4) Quit and reapply for a new job. In that order if possible. #4 is extreme and I understand that but your life comes first. We were going to do the above and we could work out with #1 itself. But be prepared for #4 if need be. Also, give every cycle all the best effort you can. They are expensive and emotionally draining sometimes. Goal should be to facilitate conception in 1 cycle and you guys should do everything in your power to make that happen.
Booking a comfy hotel room for **JUST** the mom for 72 hours after each procedure. Change of environment, and also avoid dad snoring in some cases :-). Maybe add in a mild spa treatment like a pedi or manicure. Food delivered to mom by dad. Mom should have zero worries during first 72 hours, it is critical to ensure that. We did that twice. Now proud parents of 2 kids they are 10 and 7 now. Remember, 3 days off work after each cycle no exceptions. Good luck! !!!
Is this after the embryo transfer ? That’s great advice !!
Yes right after embryo transfer. That's the most critical part and I came up with the idea during our second child. My wife was so thrilled and relaxed for the next 3 days and it worked. Also: only transfer as many as you can handle. Eg: we could never have handled triplets or twins so we only transferred 1 embryos (taking on some risk). Risky and sub optimal probability wise, but nevertheless left it to God. It worked.
