heya folks, i am not doing state of the art problem solving at work and recently got rejected by Amazon onsite for SDE 1 . I wanted to know how you guys stay motivated and keep doing leetcode even when you know you don’t have any interviews planned in coming weeks or months.
There is no secret. We don't do leetcode. Most folks only do LC when interviews are scheduled in coming weeks.
But what do you other than that? Are you doing some very cool projects at work? P.S : you are in google so i bet you are 😊
Well, reading peoples TC on blind motivates me a lot. At the same time think of it this way, if you don’t do this you will have to start over. Also motivation is overrated, if you depend on it then chances are you will not go very far. It’s usually helpful to have more interviews coming up. I would say depend on a routine instead. Set a time aside and have a goal to solve one or two problems and no matter what, just keep at it. You’ll be fine
Circumstances create motivation, motivation doesn’t create circumstances. Change the conditions and you’ll change ur behavior.
@Orion what kind of motivation are you talking about ? Motivation to get a great work or great TC or just seeing people grind and you get into same league?
You have no choice with shitty job other than grinding lc. It's boring but I want to change env asap.
I feel you bro.
I feel you bros
If you dont do this, you will have a mediocre life. That is what motivates me plus racism.
What is wrong with a mediocre life? People live satisfactory lives just fine without some 300k+ fuck you TC
@all how many of you guys compare your TC with friends and feel like shit ?
Trick, my friend, is to have no friends
Its hard to survive without good friends and my friends are really really great. It’s just the TC and failing
You gotta look at your career as a long game. Create good habits that help you build good technical and soft skills. Remain curious and interested in building your skills outside of work too. Practice maybe 30mins-1hour, 5 days/week to "learning time" to career related things. Within a year you will be more confident, more skilled and more aware. TC, titles and companies will follow. Interviews and new jobs are never when you truly "step up." the step up happens before that. The way these companies interview, they are looking for people who are already ready. The only "space for learning" is company specific proprietary tech or peculiar thigns about the culture. That's it.
I don't see it as a chore but I see it as something fun to do. When I finish a problem without looking up solution with optimal speed and space, I feel satisfied. Making it a fun activity turns it into a hobby from a chore. I would suggest trying to change your perspective about it, I'm sure there are fun parts of LC that you enjoy as well.
I failed Google & Amazon onsite. Yes, I was disappointed. ☹️ Took me a week to release stress. Then continue grinding LC & System Design. I got an Amazon offer and waiting on Apple's result from onsite.
Don’t stop interviewing. That’s the secret. Interview at random places, cherry pick onsites. This’ll get you through the leetcode motivation. For system design, it’s just a useful skill to have. Read blogs, articles, every day or every so often. Sys design is a knowledge game, so it takes time to internalize all the info. Work will stay what it has to, it’s how you sell it to companies and yourself that makes the difference. Practice convincing yourself you’re doing groundbreaking work, and you’ll find you actually like it and it’ll make it easy to sell to others too.
