Current job: Senior Manager of Client Services and Customer Success. guaranteed promtion to Director in January at my annual review. Comp around 105-110k. Company has political issues - we should be a service based model but have been functioning as SaaS the last few years. this is being remedied but that takes time. I adore the people, I have an amazing boss and my clients are blue chip, and I manage an awesome team and am learning a lot from people managing. i also have buy in from leadership and insane flexibility. Have an opp I feel a but pressured to take as the Chief of Staff at a Market Research company expanding their product and offering. Under the umbrella of a PE company. Comp 110-120, reporting to the CEO. Would be able to hire an admin to report to me so I could focuse on the strategy as they look to work through M&A, drive culture and internal communications. improtant note is that I am applying for my MBA for a Fall 2021 start, meaning wither job will be for 18 months. both bosses aware and suporitice of MBA gaols. I keep flop flopping. what would you do?
WHENEVER YOU FEEL THE NEED TO CONTEMPLATE ABOUT A NEW JOB, YOU NEED A NEW JOB.
I would consider the learning curve of a new gig while working your MBA.
This is a legitimate question. What is a career path after a stint being chief of staff?
Usually go into a grad school program or a senior level position internally at the company.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

You’re in an interesting predicament. The compensation isn’t a huge jump so I would consider other factors: 1. Stability of the company 2. Stability of the product 3. People (in both places) 4. Potential for IPO (if not publicly traded already) 5. Growth in the company 6. Growth outside the company if #1-5 don’t work out!
All good factors! The CoS job is more stable and IPO way more tangible. The people at my current job are by and far the best though and my current company has capital/runway for the next few years. Far beyond when I'll be heading back to school...
Pros and cons both the same then. I would push myself out of my comfort zone and take the new job in that case, time to build new relationships (prove that I’m great at people skills) and get peace of mind during my MBA with their stability in the process.
