I was having discussion about promo with my SDM, then i find i have been put on a dev list. I recently came out of it and am having promo discussion again with my SDM, he is aligned for it in next quarter. But I am not getting clear indication from my skip if he is aligned about my promo, and is giving usual diplomatic response. Meanwhile, i reached out to other teams (though not in as technically challenging domain), most of them are impressed by my data structure and algo grasp and by my CRs. They are promising me promo in next quarter. I am in dilemma, either to wait in current team for promo or to take a leap of faith. Can experienced amazonians put their two cents worth in?

I've promoted a person who got off the dev list 2 quarters before. Dev list isn't the end, it's a time to improve. You'd be surprised how many PEs were once on a dev list at Amazon. Don't listen to the doom and gloomers here who can't cut it and expect participation trophies for just being at work. My recommendation is to stay for now, promo deadline is a month away.
Leave! Run as fast as you can. Never trust a manager who puts you on dev-list and doesn't disclose it. You should also be very careful about selecting the new team and manager. You will be up for OLR rating in six months. Will the new manager stack rank you to the bottom? Will he/she really promote you in next quarter? Do a lot of research about the new team before switching.
Manager isn't supposed to tell you. HR explicitly says not to. And there is no stack ranking. And OLR is next month. It happens in Q1 and Q3. Stop spreading bad info, you really don't know how things work at Amazon.
There may not be any stack ranking.. Manager may not not reveal for putting you in dev list.. But if a manager is talking about promo and then put in dev list. It clearly implies that manager was just ignoring that promo conversation.. Do not trust such a manager.. I had been in similar situation.. I was discussion with my manager Bob (fake name) (a novice L5 manager) for promo.. I had my monthly 1:1 with skip manager John and when I mentioned that I am discussing promotion with Bob. John suggested I should check first where i stand at L4. That gave me indication and I quickly improved before they put me in dev list and eventually get promoted. When in dev plan, you can't get promo or transition or change team. Ur manager may be making more data points against you to put you in PIP, is your manager also L5 manager? As you will also become L5 manger so such situation can occur
