Been working at Western Digital in the flash storage side (system design). First job out of school. What are other options out there (apart from the usual Intel, Micron, Samsung, Hynix). Looking for increasing TC. Do the FAANG companies have HW/Storage teams? YoE:6 TC: 150k
Seagate - we are killing it over here.
Lol...you mean getting killed?
Pure Storage Edit: $220k TC @ 3yoe
How’s the work and wlb?
Probably the best work of the storage industry. Wlb is great. People show up between 9-11 and leave between 4-6, super flexible hours, hardly putting in 40hr
Try Amazon or Apple. They do some development on flash.
What's your specialization?
Yes, each of the major cloud companies has internal hardware teams. You can also jump to another hardware company, like I did from WD. I left during the SanDisk/WD/HGST merger hell. Most of the good engineers at WD all jumped to better companies around that time. Get out of there while you can.
Good engineers are the ones that are driving the design. To my knowledge we didn’t lose any of those. We lost the job hoppers that lacked commitment and vision. Many of them jumped to Micron and then immediately came back.

DM me, can refer you in FB.
Thanks! Will get in touch early next year.
Your career is still young. Don’t limit yourself to storage. It is a very limiting field.
There are but limited.
