How do you deal with fierce competition at work? Does it make your life stressful?

Competition at work has never really been a concern to me. In college I’d get excited to get the top grade and kill the curve, but even then it wasn’t out of competition. At work I take full responsibility for my own performance and career growth. If I have a bad manager, that’s luck and it’s on me for staying.

As for stress, I’ve spent many hours learning to manage my thoughts and emotions. Stress inevitably comes up and I do my best to catch it early and put it in perspective before it gets to me.

No, but I get it sounds squishy. Actually I went through serious shit and years of depression. I learned a lot on the way out.

Managing stress is a legit skill

The ability to only focus on what you can change and not worry about what you can’t

The ability to have shit hitting the fan at work, but know you are having dinner with you family and there is nothing you can do about it, and be able to not think about it at all

Helps to have good fallback (skill set and money saved)

Not for nothing but the more I just let go, the more “control” I actually had. I know that’s rather cliche and heady however besides the staples of a healthy lifestyle and all that comes with it, physically, mentally etc. I just had to make a conscientious effort to operate from a place of acceptance vs. resistance and let go. And quite honestly... life’s just not that serious and I wasted too much time stressing when I should be living. I remain productive, I don’t avoid what needs to be done, I am just as motivated and hardworking etc. but everything around me became better when I just changed my perspective. Living in a infinite universe for a finite amount of time, lucky to even have the chance to experience it so I put my ego aside and grateful. Period. Whenever I catch myself drifting, overwhelming feelings or negativity I just am immediately grounded by the fact that these are luxury problems.

I would just get another job, dude. Competition like that is fun if you’re looking for it, but if it’s unwanted and that’s the cultural norm just get another job. If it’s just your team then switch teams
