Hi Everyone. It has been 10 years since I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, and eight years since I graduated with an MBA. I still cannot get a manager /senior manager role, nor a career that pays more than $20/hr. Yeah, that’s super sad. I had to switch industries. I work in IT now as an entry-level technician. I love the people, and the job is fun. There is still a “but” - I still believe I can be and do more. Has it been 10 years of bad luck because my BSBA is from a third world country, and my MBA is from Univ. of Phoenix? Did working at ITT Tech seem as another turn off to potential employers? Did working for retailers just to make ends meet turn off potential employers off? I started my work/life in the Seattle area. I moved to Vegas for about two years, then spent a year in Cali sometime ago, but I found my way back to Seattle. I’ve been back for the past four years. My compensation is still under $20/hr. What are your thoughts?
Honestly, if you think you have a knack for coding, join a bootcamp and go for it. Bootcamp grads do get jobs, if not as programmers then as QA people or at least something decent in the tech industry. Get your foot in the door is what I’m saying. Go where the money is, and that is the tech industry.
Thank you. I haven’t tried coding before . It looks interesting.
Just wanted to say I agree with what Uber said. If you're actually serious about changing your life and have drive, a bootcamp can be a great option. Before attending my bootcamp, my TC was about double yours, which is honestly still quite low compared to software engineer pay in Seattle. You'll have to work your ass off to get that first job, but once you break into the industry, you're set. TC went from 80k to 172k in just a year and a half. Keep your head up and keep grinding! Also have friends or a professional review your resume. You probably want to remove things like ITT Tech. Recruiters are very biased.
Why is business administration a BS? In what way is business administration a science or even applied science?
University of Phoenix is an online for profit program. They have been in the news a fair amount, for several reasons, over the past decade.
? BS as in Bachelor of as Science
It doesn't sound like your work history demonstrates management potential ie you do not mention managerial or team lead roles. That ans it sounds like you move around a lot your first management position will typically come after several years learning one business. Make sure you step up and ask for additional responsibilities and leadership roles. Also watch for other manager positions in related areas of the company you are working for. Is your American English easy to understand? If not perhaps diction classes might help or a group like Toastmasters which helps with public speaking and makes you business contacts as well
Other than the Management Trainee / Associate Director position I had with ITT Tech, I have not had the chance for other managerial positions. Thanks for the Tips. My written grammar sometimes fails, but my speech is at par as I was born and raised stateside. Thanks for commenting.
MBA from U of Phoenix does more harm than good.
I’ve come to that truth two years after graduation.
I agree your UOP degree is not going to be a big help. A side way into management may be project management as they can be ad-hoc and you can prove yourself. If you want to stay technical, work on industry certs. I've been in IT for 20 years, if your not a developer is a slow grind.
Thank you. I’ve been looking at PM. Hoping for more projects to come up at my current place of work to get started.
My wife has an MBA from UOP and has TC over $140k. It comes down to work experience and hustle.
TC?
I learned TC = Total Compensation.
No way its 42k. Lockheed finally feels like google! Whooh

If you’re trolling kindly delete this post. If not trolling, I’m sorry homie. Most likely your masters doesn’t mean too much. It sounds like you are on the right track though. I think if you keep trekking forward you’ll get to where you need to be. If you’re looking to break into a coding job a personal project and a recommendation can make a huge deal.
I’m not trolling. Thanks for checking in on me. Thank you for the suggestions and support.
