Stuck in Team Matching at Google NYC

I have been in team matching process for over 2 months now with only 1 hiring manager talking to me which was in the 2nd week of this process.

I'm not looking for any particular team/product. The recruiter is casting a wide net but still not much interest.

Is this normal? Do I have any chance of getting matched?

This is before it goes to HC.

I’m surprised recruiter is letting you wait for match. My recruiter tried for a week or two to find pre-HC match but when he saw headcount was low (back in April) he just put me into HC.

Anyway, it’s harder to find a match pre-HC. Managers don’t want to waste time talking to you and holding the spot if you might end up not passing HC

Why dont they do HC first then? At least I'll know one way or the other!

For weaker/borderline candidates they want a team match before HC, as the manager can write a justification and recommend them for the team specifically

If you are able to get a match it will help you pass HC.

If you would rather know now you can tell your recruiter to put you in now. You would still have to get a team match after to get an offer but it would be easier.

FWIW I ended up passing HC without team match. I was borderline which is why we looked for a match first.

How long after clearing HC did you find a team match? And which level?

Still haven’t :) L3. Passed HC in late April I think. I am targeting a smaller office, but recruiter also tells me about NYC positions, which are only coming open now.

Yes, I guess I don't have the best rating for my onsite or it's something else. I don't know. Is there still any hope? Clutching at straws! lol

Take a step back and get in a place of strength. Get some other offers and wave them in Google's face and see what happens. Worst case your other offers are not bad places to go to!

Same here. It's been 3 weeks since HC approved and there has been just one team match call where the manager went with someone else.

Anyone here has any updates on their situation?

Consider moving to Seattle or Mountain View. Just for a while. You may enjoy it. I left NYC for Seattle to join Amazon, and moved back to NYC a few years later (not with Amazon). I’d do it again for Google if I had to. Of course NYC is great but you need to try different things in your life. Can’t stay in one place forever.

How does team matching actually work? Is it an interview with hiring managers where you can be rejected?

If you make it through HC, do they at least start paying you?

Is our job market for tech finally softening? I skated through 2 economics classes in college. One of the few things I remember is... let me think about this, hmmm. Something like: when the supply of a thing is greater than the demand for that thing, the market value of that thing tends to fall. Something like that.
