I have been denied opportunities at work because of stuttering, which delayed my promotions and affected my pay. I have failed tons of interviews because I stutter and unable to have good conversations with the interviewer or explain my thought process to them. I have been made fun of and looked down upon as a kid. But I shall not give up. Everyone has struggles, this is mine. To all the hiring managers and recruiters here - please make reasonable accommodations for people who have challenges (in this case providing extra time for each interview, or allowing the candidate to write down his thoughts instead of verbal conversations). To everyone else - please make sure people with challenges are not discriminated against. Help them and build a positive, collaborative, and supportive environment around you. Please be patient when we speak, we have things to say š International Stuttering Awareness Day. Peace to all.
Good luck! I hope you land the right role
Thank you. I am trying, I shall not stop till I get what I deserve keeping my challenge aside.
deleted because i was rude. sorry, everyone deserves respect and i wouldnāt want stupid jokes either. i want to be inclusive as well
Sorry, can you repeat yourself? š
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1981351098588877&id=100001420179604 She is my dear friend, I hope you all spare a few minutes to listen to her.
Sorry to hear that you face discrimination. That must be awful. I wish you the best.
Yes, it indeed is awful. I don't get rejected for stuttering itself I guess, I get rejected for the implications of it like being unable to express ideas freely, unable to engage the interviewer in free-flowing discussions, and unable to come across as a confident person. I hope one day I am able to overcome all of this and get what I deserve. I hope one day I get accepted for my stuttering and all it's implications š
You sound like someone with a positive attitude which will always stand you in good stead. Stay positive and apply to jobs aggressively.
Hey there, what roles are you interviewing for?
Data science and ML
Similar to the Microsoft response, I think we have a very welcoming and inclusive culture. Let me know if you'd ever like to explore Spotify.
Hey! Let me know if you need a referral at MSFT. Weāre very inclusive :)
Oh thank you so much. One of my friends referred me last year but I never got a call. Maybe we can try again. I will pm you š
sorry, donāt mean to be rude, just curious - how do you know you failed the interviews because of stuttering ? did you get some sort of feedback or comments?
Do you know how you get to know that you did well in, say, your 1st and 3rd round, but not so much in 2nd round? Exactly that way. When something doesn't go right you get to know. Sometimes, I know the answers that the interviewer is looking for, I have them in my head, but I ain't able to speak. Sometimes I did everything right in the interview and there is not even a single thing I would change. Sometimes I ain't able to come across as a right fit for the position because the position requires communication with different teams and the hiring manager would rather have a fluent person who comes across as a confident guy over someone who takes much longer than a fluent person to speak. Data science interviews sometimes have a presentation round and I just keep stuttering throughout, hardly able to convince them with the project I am presenting. No one can give a direct feedback that they rejected me for stuttering because that would be plain discrimination and I can sue them for it. So some companies either don't get back or just say they found a better candidate. Like I said, more than stuttering I have been rejected by the implication of it - like not being able to have free-flowing discussions with the interviewer, or not coming across as a convincing and confident candidate, not being able to frame my answers the right way as I would have liked to, etc.
Iām sorry youāve had those negative experiences. Thank you for sharing this and reminding us to be open-hearted.
Thanks Intel. It's important for each one of us to appreciate how lucky we are and how we take little things for granted that other people struggle with. It's good to learn to accept people and look beyond what is visible.
Are you an idiot?
You think you are being smart, no? Sad to know that we employ dumbtard piece off shit like you.
