I am a mechanical engineer(Bachelors) with 2 years of work experience with Mahindra. I am thinking to pursue my masters next. What are some of the programs that I can explore apart from MS in mechanical? Also any universities you would recommend?
Not worth it all the visa hustles.
Unless you wanna do PhD this is not going to be your happy place. You could alternatively go to Germany or Europe. Life is not only beautiful but you might find better opportunities in MechE. Also you want to make sure what you want to do in MechE. It's quite diverse and so pick universities accordingly. I know folks in Purdue to battery research and someone was interning along with me in Battery Cell. So, you gotta pick first. Another safest option is Industrial or MEM programs.

I'm assuming you're from India since you work with Mahindra.. Mechanical is a tricky area.. A lot of companies here like Ford, Boeing only hire US citizens.. If you want to work for them it would have to be through an agency as a contractor.. One other thing to consider - my friend came here to do masters in aerospace engineering.. In terms of visa that has become an issue, because every time they apply for a visa or renewal (including the student visa) they get stuck outside the country for 4-8 weeks in "administrative processing".. Basically the field is considered a potential national security threat and they do additional verification.. After this happening 4 times, this friend has decided to not step out of the country at all until they get their green card which is probably another 7-8 years.. Cos most employers are not ok with you sitting in India for 8 weeks..
Thanks for the inputs. I have heard about the visa issues for a lot of companies that deal with the government. Any thoughts on Engineering management ?
Not sure.. The person I've mentioned has since moved away from Ford into a company that doesn't have govt contracts.. Their title is "engineering project manager".. Still had this issue in the latest h1b renewal stamping..
