Just got an offer for Amazon Boston and planning to move. 2 questions: a. How to survive the Boston winter b. Is TC 300k good enough for this location? Reason to move: Awesome project to work on. YOE: 8 yrs Also, 300k is TC. The base is about 180k. Just wanted to clarify. Also, have a family (wife, 1 kid) and will be relocating from Seattle.
a. Its ok, its not as bad as Chicago b. Yes, you could live right next to Amazon office and still save up plenty
I used public transportation for 6 months internship during winter period.its not that bad
A. Buy wearher appropriate clothing. Nice gloves go a long way. B. 300k is definitely enough to live comfortably off of, but may preclude owning houses in specific neighborhoods.
Hot chocolate with tiny marshmallows
Lots of Irish coffees
A. If you really cannot tolerate cold (say, if you grew up in the SW), you could consider living within a few blocks of work. The office is in Kendall Sq, right? B. More than enough. Boston living isn't as bad as people think. Not even close to CA
300k is great there. As for the winter: man/woman up. It makes you appreciate the other three seasons even more.
Boston is amazing. Winters are cold but there's heavy snowfall only 3-4 times. Perfect for doing all sorts of winter sports. Easy to survive. Start loving clam chowder. 300k TC is great for the location.
BTW 300k is TC. The base is about 180k. Just wanted to clarify. Also, have a family (wife, 1 kid)
