Iβm an Engineering Manager and I frequently work and swap tips with a peer EM with similar YoE. The topic of salary increases for a shared report was discussed, and we ended up talking about philosophies on EM salary leveling and increases. The company is a non-faang with very little process and thought put into compensation for EMs. My peer EM wanted to volunteer and swap salary information with me so we can calibrate ourselves with the company. Is this a good idea? YoE: 7, TC: 300K
So is Glassdoor wrong? What about h1b database?
Company is small, < 150 employees, and EM comp information is sparse.
Nope. Not a good idea. Will create friction
How so? As a manager, I have a duty to minimize revealing salary information for ICs on behalf of the company. But as an individual, Iβd like to understand my standing relative to other EMs. Only way I can think of is to interview and just find what the market is willing to pay.
Between colleagues it will. Just speaking from experience.
I wouldn't do that
Nah. No. Focus on your TC and how to get more not compare and talk. Act on tips already
