Id like to switch from swe to cybersec (preferably offensive), Im still a noob but i work on my skills everyday. To me its much more enjoyable breaking things than building them. How do I do this without getting my TC destroyed? even if the job is tangentially related, thats good enough for me. tc 210k
You could join a cybersecurity focused tech company like Palo Alto Networks and still maintain / increase your TC. Don't need to throw away your swe experience, could use it to help develop threat detection systems etc. Some devs collaborate with threat research teams but it depends what your role is.

Apply for a security developer role, like at Netflix. And transition to pentesting.
How many yoe and experience I need for that? I’m not sure if I’m good enough yet. 4.5 yoe
Look for security engineering positions if you want a TC bump. It's still involves building things, but there's often some red team opportunities too. Most of those job descriptions have requirements pages long, but having a SWE background is always a good start.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Can’t without taking a TC hit
Even cloud security or some bs?
Yea. I think the exception would be software security (coding secure software) or starting high up in the cyber security food chain. Another way would be to have a clearance
