Will switching to a QA role at a different company from software engineering be a dead end to me in the future? I have heard that it can be good or bad, but I don't know if I should take the job just because it has a big name.
QA at a big name is worse than than SWE at some random start up purely as a resume item. If you need to take the job to put food on the table go ahead and do not hesitate, but keep looking for engineer jobs. Or is the job a software engineer in test? If so, you should highlight that's it's still a software engineer position even if in the QA Dept
I definitely don't need to take it to put food on the table. More of a matter to have a new job at a new company. Also, how is SDET different from QA? Seems like it just means you have more development than a QA engineer
SDET focuses on testing and frameworks. Similar to Test Engineer and Software Engineer in Tools and Infrastructure (SETI) at Google.
Why is QA still a thing? I thought the role is fading away in the age of CI/CD
