Really like coding but did industrial engineering and in F1. If I want to be a Python Dev what are the options? Only PhD? Another option is to slog with OMS CS and apply H1B after exhausting STEM OPT but thats potentially another three years in drain.
first time hearing PhD as "only" option to become Python Dev...
Nah. If in F1 Visa then if you need to switch majors then...
nvm, that makes more sense
Python dev, meh.
SWE is cool again. And everyone likes coding now a days! About a decade ago 99% of my friends in other majors who had coding said they thought coding was the easiest, dumbest and most boring thing among all things they do and learn! Any EE/ME/IE/ChE can become SWE any day!
Cool doesn't mean difficult or hard to learn. It just means cool.

Google CFO confirms 'large-scale' layoffs (Apr 17)
is your main concern: a.) which route makes the smoothest process to obtain a visa? b.) if the hard work and time is worth it?
A) with IE degree if I apply for STEM OPT extension I suspect I would get an RFE since the job titles are matched to Major rather than the course work. My course work have OODD (CSC Grad level course)
ah okay, this is over my head as I do not know about visa complexities. hopefully others can chime in!
