How competitive is Sydney's tech market as compared to US. I am asking in relevance of Sde2 salaries bandwidth, annual increments and switching possibilities.
Less competitive and not many options.. had an amazing offer last year but after a little bit of research, I had to decline, too limited options

Compared to the US it’s less competitive in terms of pay and companies operating. A lot of startups move the other way ie to the USA.
Is this situation improving?
No. It’s unlikely to change unless there is a radical shift in economic fundamentals. USAa has a unique combination of investors willing to dump tons of cash into tech and the Human Resources to execute using that investment. Also the USA is 300 million whereas Australia is only 20. If you want to get an idea of what the tech scene in Sydney is like think about Vancouver.
