How many hours do you workout everyday?
I have a master's degree and 1.5 years of experience at Amazon, and I'm a recently promoted SDE-2. If I apply for F/G six months from now (Jan/Feb 2019), how likely am I to be considered for a T4/E4 SWE role? I'm currently on OPT, and I'm evaluating making the switch before the next H-1B cycle in April. I've heard that F/G usually try to underlevel while hiring, so I'm not sure how feasible this is. If I do get an L3 offer at these companies, are they likely to beat my Amazon compensation? My current TC is ~176k, expected TC in 2019/2020 is 190-200k+ (Seattle).
You’re not gonna improve your chances of getting H1B lottery by moving. Amazon will be a better choice for ease of global transfer should you not get your H1B, move after you get it. Shut shop and wait till then, would be my advice.
Thanks for replying. I would like to switch to F/G eventually. If I don't get through in the H1B lottery next year, I would be looking to put in my 1 year overseas and return on L1B. Staying with Amazon would lock me to Amazon unless I switch overseas, which will also reset the 1 year clock for L1B. That's why I'm trying to see whether making the switch earlier is an option. Could you elaborate on why you think transferring globally is easier in Amazon than say Google?
More Amazon offices world over, especially if you are in AWS. Big thirst to expand, meaning more opportunities. US experience added bonus outside, you will have had 2+ performance cycles and your ability is well documented. Wait to hear back on Google from people familiar with global mobility, haven’t heard much on this. Besides, it could all work out if you switch and get your H1B or get your H1B with amazon and then switch. Either way, you have a lifetime to achieve your eventual goal of FB/G. Not sure what’s the hurry, better to go with a few years exp than go at lower level and get low salary. But hey it’s just me, good luck!
