Or still slave to annoying bosses? Is life relatively peaceful and happier than in the past/ or not worth it and planning to change the situation?
If you feel like your problems will go away as you get richer then you are in for a surprise. However, it did take me getting rich to realize that and eventually changed my perspective enough on this to be more free. It was never about money.
I think it really depends on why you're unhappy. Are you happy with everything else but stressed out about money? Are you able to control spending but just want more money? If so, then more money might help. If the reason for your unhappiness is more relationship-oriented or if you're a shitty person then money won't help and might make things worse.
Ya money can cause stress. But still I think it isn't the main cause. However, I think you are unlikely to figure out that fixing your money problems won't make you happy while you have serious money problems.
Didn’t change anything for me. I do what I do because I love it. Most days I’m excited to go to work. I have to force myself to stop and get out of my office so I can spend quality time with friends and family. I will happily take a pay cut work on things I love and feel curious about.
No significant change for me until household TC broke 800k. That felt different. Still the same old at work though
In what aspect?
I don’t have aspirations to spend a lot of money, so at that point everything I wanted to buy or do stopped registering in the part of my brain that would do mental accounting and ask “can you afford this right now?”. It felt like going from a finite amount of money to infinite money.
It’s not the TC that sets you free. It’s the net worth, what you save, and how much you spend.
Watching out for lifestyle inflation is super important.
It is your mind that sets you free. Free your mind and your ass will follow. The kingdom of heaven is within!
No dude. Money does matters but when you have a shitty boss who doesn't knows anything about leadership or micromanaging boss then regardless what you earn your life will be greatly affected unless you have a control over your mind.
This guy
No, I still feel the Lambo payments. Need $SQ 100 before I don’t.
If you notice the lambo payments, you shouldn't have a lambo (or so I hear). I totally feel the midrange Mercedes payments, so I'm in no position to judge.
Not a candidate to speak in terms of numbers, making only $90K. On the topic of happiness - I can speak. I am happy since I have killed my mortgage. It is totally different paradigm which can't be explained to a mind which is focused on deduction. Even when I had enough to pay off I was not feeling free. Full independence started after no payment is remarkably refreshing. I am happy like I was when I was 6. So maybe happiness is more about liability than money or potential of income.
Things felt financial free after 200k tc for me. That's after already owning home. Anything else I bought after that just felt like a short lived dopamine shot.
I was making 2x at Salesforce around 500k TC but I had a really shitty boss and worked with mostly butt kissers and ladder climbers who were only interested in getting promoted. My boss was more than worthless in fact 70% of the team quit in the last 7 months. I still keep in touch with some and I can confidently say I am 100x happier now
Feels like my happiness was capped at 200k, no significant difference afterwards
The biggest threshold seems to be being able to afford to buy a house. After that, just keep working until you're ready to retire. Most people making over $200k will be able to comfortably retire before they feel like quitting their job.
