I got an offer from Capital One as a Senior associate data scientist at their San Francisco office with a base of 150K, and a joining bonus of 10k. I have 5 years of experience as a Data Scientist. Is this the usual TC ?
Senior associate basically means "just above junior developer". Most people get that promotion in 2 years or less probably why it's on the low end. Go for principal associate/senior dev at 5 YOE if you're looking for more.
You might want to read about people’s experiences with Capital One both as a data scientist and in general.
Also keep in mind the positive reviews about capital one are in mclean and richmond where they have a big presence, great benefits, competitive pay, and relatively low col
And just to give a baseline, I’m leaving to a new company. My TC is 200k with 1 yoe
Thanks - are you saying your experience in SF hasn't been that great? And you mention 200K - is that your TC at Capital One, or the new company?
Im assuming you’re talking about my thread. No it wasn’t that great. The 200k TC is at my new company. C1 paid me half of that. They underpay insanely. Don’t expect 200k unless you work there for 15-20 years
I would say the only great thing were the people there but that’s cause we were all good engineers rotting away by leadership and the office there
But don’t take my word for it. Just search desu and you will learn a lot about how C1 is
What's desu?
Search it
Senior Associate is a bit low for someone with 5 YOE. TBH though, the pay is going to be pretty shit regardless.
Don’t come. It’s a dumpster fire here
You could get that (or close) in McLean with a lower CoL, so I'd say it's low. Also heard we're shutting down SF offices? I think there are some other threads on Blind about it.
Nah
we should but the company prob won’t
Most interns and tdps unless ur from a tier 2/3 univ .. won’t even accept the offers made
C1 job > no job
Although I will say I haven’t really learned much from C1 which makes my second job lot harder for me
Seems unusual Bordering on outrageous
I'm hoping you're talking about it being unusually low 😆 what's a good TC I should be asking for?
I don't know. But 150k for 5 years experience is quite low in sf
