TC doesn't matter... Tell me what you're really worth

Facebook / Eng AwGK74
May 28 104 Comments

TC means nothing if you can't maintain your wealth into retirement. Let's talk net worth. Give your total household net worth, years of experience and region.

To calculate, take all assets minus liabilities. This includes face value of all equities, real estate, bank & investment accounts minus all debts owed. Do NOT include unvested RSU or pre IPO shares (IE Monopoly 💸).

Let's see how wealthy the people of blind really are. Any PAWs out there?

Thanks dude! I guess I’m looking for too much.

      1. Intelligent and has a good career
      2. Great personality and extroverted
      3. Great body and face.

I guess we all want that, yeah? 😂 send me a PM if you know any.

Sales my entire career. The majority with MS. No kids, no wife, no desire to change the latter. That's the biggest contributing factor I think. Some of my friends have kids and it's expensive. I respect people like you that have a large family that can still save a good amount of money. Others seem to struggle to be honest. At least in NYC, so most of them leave to CT or elsewhere.

Also, I invest a lot. Fortunate enough to have a moderate -to-good return even through the crash. I'm a buy and hold kind of guy. Not a day trader.

How did you accumulate that amount? Really great number!
      May 30
    • Chase / Finance uifE16
I'm not in tech but my TC since I'd started working was between 250k and 850k. Maxed out my 401k from day one. Always kept most of it in stocks even though the crisis. Still keep around 2mm outside of 401k with managed accounts.

Realized that I wasn't earning enough in financial markets. So as a hobby, I started investing in private business as a sole proprietor or a minority position but a board seat. Still owna cash cow that earns 25 to 35pct annually. Exited once business venture at 6x investment after 5 years. Finishing construction in another business.

That kind of stuff. I'm not very frugal though but try to keep monthly expenses to no more than 15k including rent. No real crazy luxuries either except for 40k vacations for a couple of weeks (i like to travel) or lunch at my favorite sushi spot that sometimes cost 1k depending on how hungry i am

      OP
Sure, was more looking for years in the work force... That's what I meant by yoe... If you started really working at age 27 because of a masters, you might have negative net worth vs a new grad 22 years old working at Google. I'm more interested in people's savings rates vs when they started working. Either way you're right age does mater, interpret responses how you want.

Thanks! House is paid off already so there is at least that :)

Starting in June my TC is increasing by ~250%. So hopefully in the next 2-3yrs my student loans will be paid off.
      May 28
    • Salesforce linusklava
So that’s interesting. Why would you have your house paid off but not student loans? I assume the student loans have a higher interest than a mortgage. It’s worth considering refinancing your house to pay off student loans...
      May 28
    • Bayer / IT Genie_22
Well the house and car can repossessed if you miss payments. Knowledge can’t be.

What will they do? Tell me to forget everything I learned because I missed a student loan payment LMAO.

Not everything is about paying off the highest interest rate first. Everyone has different priorities. My wife and I just prioritize not being homeless over not having student loans.

I was just stupidly lucky. I came across an article about high-risk investment at some Ivy league (or similar) school that grows exponentially over last few decades so I have been doing the same. I dont mind losing all (or most of my money), simply because my parents are not poor. So here are what I did
      - spent topcoder winning money on bitcoin. Topcoder used to pay SRM room winners back then. I didnt cash that money out, either donated to charity or bought bitcoin (I was was doing cryptography/digital money at grad school so btc was a just little fun project). I keep all btc as I dont need money, and dont plan to sell anytime soon.
      - never sold amzn stocks (for the same reason), got them at $2xx/share.
      - as much as I hate unethical practices, I believe general public always choose convenience over everything else. So I bought shit load of fb stocks at $4x. Same with Chipotle. There was a video where a bunch of kids were shown how disgusting chicken nuggets were made but they ate them anyway. When Chipotle crashed from $700 (or close) to $2xx, I bought a lot of CMG. Similar story with cannabis companies' stocks given the number of crackheads I see on the way to work in Seattle downtown.
      - Seattle house value went up
There are bad investments as well but everything is okay overall.
