7.5 YOE with MS in EE

I believe it still depends on your current TC as a negotiating power. A base of 135K bonus 15% and RSU ļ½ž40K/4yr and signon 15k maybe it. 180k TC for you. If you make more than that probably can push to 200K which I believe to be very hard. If you are looking at 200K+ plz go to Apple, Google or Amazon. Of course, plz update us with your package!

I knew ppl joining with 150+ base, but thatā€™s rare!

Can you be a principal engineer with 7.5YoE.?

Marvell Engeneer Aug 10, 2019

All the designations are internal to companies... For example I have seen openings in Cadence for Principal Engineer which has minimum requirement as 5 years of experience. But in some firms PE have a minimum or more than 20 years of experience

WD principal level = L4/L5 at other places

Western Digital kYuW43 Aug 14, 2019

Not true, L3/L4 is base 180k to 220k , principal engr at WDC make around 136k to 159k base

Are you kidding me Principle making 159k ? This must be cheaper geo. Not bay.

90k

Seems a bit too much

This topic is depressing...

Western Digital JiraSucks Aug 9, 2019

Why...

Guess software vs hardware TC disparity?

Samsung statarb Aug 9, 2019

Two things. PE with 7.5 YOE at WD might not happen. That being said, you should be able to get north of 200 TC.

Western Digital JiraSucks Aug 9, 2019

I think OP was asking for target TC. Per blindā€™s standard we are doing a very conservative math

Western Digital JiraSucks Aug 9, 2019

I think 3-4 yoe may not guarantee u a principal. But 7-8yoe should do..

Seagate toti420 Aug 9, 2019

I think you can find better places than WD. Thereā€™s no growth there. They put their money into SSD and bleeding cash right now.

Western Digital JiraSucks Aug 9, 2019

Not really. If he can switch jobs, he has a future. If he can jump to STX with 20% increase without wasting time at the same place, he should do it, too. That being said, he does not have to join sunset industry if FANG open doors to him.

Anyways, I think we WDC folks addressed OPā€™s question well. Good luck!

I worked at WD for four years. If it's still the merger clusterfuck with mandatory working weekends that I endured... Run, run as fast as you can in the other direction. You get one life and dedicating it to WD is not worth it by a longshot.

Western Digital JiraSucks Aug 9, 2019

Merger clusterfuck has long gone...but itā€™s smart you left. I think OP can join, but don settle.
