Why does everyone call out TC its total bullshit. Why not just list base salary? Stocks and bonuses are rarely promised and normally depend on a number of factors. Base - $125k
My personal view is that it does matter if the difference is significant. For instance, my friend at FB and I have identical base, but because of their stock refreshers, he essentially makes 60k more a year than me with the same yoe
But it takes years to vest the stock, so is the stock really part of my total comp if I leave the company company before I vest?
TC only includes the amount that vests each year. All non shitty companies have stock that vests evenly over a period of years and it can essentially be seen as part of your compensation. Then there's Amazon, but we don't talk about Amazon.
Well my TC = Base so joke’s on you 😏
Base is not the entire picture , I would love to make 1$ base and 10m$ in RSU.
Can’t pay the rent with RSU.
If you live from paycheck to paycheck I suggest you rethink your actions
Tell that to the C-Suite 🙄
Your salary isn't guaranteed either, you can get laid off tomorrow.
Yeah, but if the stock isn’t vested it would be worthless to me too.
What do you mean if stock isn't vested? They vest on a schedule just like your base "vests" monthly or bimonthly
Amazonians can never cross 160k base in Seattle even if they are Jeff Bezos.
So crazy to me, the stock isn’t going to go up forever
Doesn't have to go up. You get new stocks every year. It's awesome if it goes up every year for sure
What you said is not accurate for a publicly traded company. I get vested shares of stock (which sell and get converted to cash immediately) once per month.
That’s great, typically hasn’t been my experience.
Yeah I use to work at small startups. I do not count options into TC because it’s fake paper money (and none of them ended up anywhere). I’m joining FAANG next month, I count RSUs into TC since it’s guaranteed (though amount it’s worth could obviously drop/go up). I don’t count bonuses even ones with targets or refreshers until I get them.
Yearly bonuses should definitely be in your TC. It's cash. RSUs are something you depend on when buying a big ticket item, so it's a meaningful income and should be counted.
Bonus, I guess but I typically think of it has nice to have. In my experience, normally gets reduced from what I was promised due to poor company performance.
A substantial portion of my compensation is in incentive payment, both in cash bonus and stock. Admittedly, it’s a phenomenal motivation and retention tool. The better AbbVie does, the better I do. Base salary is for suckers.
I’m obviously at the wrong company
ikr?
It's like measuring the size of unerected penis after a cold shower. No point.
Aptly coming from Uber
😂
