What is the engineering culture and WLB like in Seattle? How are the benefits?
WLB is good. Benefits are similar to msft but with worse 401k match
Now you will find several ex Amazon folks too. But that hasn't affected the culture as far as I can tell.
What is the management culture like? Handoffs, micromanaging, writing memos all day, getting their hands dirty?
Depends on the team. I've seen hands off managers, some getting their hands dirty and doing some coding / pair programming to help debug an issue. Generally it is stand-ups a couple of times a week and then a team status email every Friday
Thanks! I'm considering a change as a manager and trying to figure out what it generally looks like at other companies.
It’s a servant leadership culture. Managers at Tableau are accountable to hire great talent and make sure they have the resources they need to succeed. Managers coach on career development and technical, though it’s not uncommon to manage someone with more technical skill than you, and important to recognize when you aren’t the expert. Teams operate mostly bottoms up. Managers do not hand down directives. When they need something done they sell in the team. We also have very good management and leadership training available.

If you vote for Biden this year, don't complain about layoffs
Lot of people from Microsoft there. Very chill WLB.
