I have 13 yoe in a single company and a Google recruiter approached me. I have not prepared for interviews at all in last few years. Is it foolish to talk to recruiter at this point? Looking at the job profile it kind of matches what I do. It's a position for application engineer, consumer hardware in mountain view. They ask experience in internet technologies such as both, cloud SQL and spanner as minimal qualification. I have worked in other stuff and none of this
Prep prep prep. This could be life changing.
Ask for 30 days before your phone screen.
Google recruiters are very open to schedule interviews at the time you are ready (even encourage you to take time to prepare). If you feel you have the time and energy to go in full prep mode for a month or so go for it. If you don’t feel comfortable with that, you can always ask the recruiter to reconnect 3-6 months down the road
I found the Google recruiters who worked with me to be very considerate and accommodating, but also persistent (in a good way). Schedule the interview for when you feel ready and then give it a shot!
I’d totally agree with most of the sentiment shared here already. Google recruiters really care about you converting your call into an offer. They’re very thoughtful and considerate. You could talk with the recruiter and ask for 30 days or so before your first round of interview. They’ll be most likely happy to accommodate that! I’d say that preparation is a must if you’re planning to take your Google interview seriously.
So what's the first step towards preparation targeting Google. Sorry no experience at all in last many years to prepare for interviews

Yes, it’s 10 years old, but still very relevant
I was in the same boat 3 months ago. Asked for 30 days to prepare. Did 200 leetcode problems and read a lot on system design. I passed the interviews and got an offer. In retrospect 60 days would have been better. You absolutely must prepare.
Absolute beast. You taking it?

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
Yes, without solid prep you may just be wasting your time. Even though your background matches the profile you are still required to demonstrate that you meet their bar.
