What TC one can expect for Target's EMIP Sr. engineering manager role in Minneapolis which includes 12 months training?
Worked at Target HQ for 10+ years though not in engineering. Left for Amazon ~4 years ago. No idea on their EMIP training. My comments are on overall Target culture.
I went to Open Source North this year and there was an employee from Target who spoke about their recent changes to become more engineering-focused and to provide time for their engineers to learn. Were you around for this shift? Also, I heard it's an open office plan. What's EMIP stand for?
You can discount @amazon advice then. They had a huge push to bring engineering inside in middle of 2017 and they're into it. They're into Agile and most IT is in-house now. But at end of the day it's a website for a retailer. There isn't much to break.
Nope, not around for this shift. Open office plan is fine, but bring/wear headphones if you need to concentrate to block out distractions. Engineering Management Immersion Program is their engineering leadership rotation. https://jobs.target.com/job/minneapolis/engineering-management-immersion-program-emip/1118/12337570

One can expect the usual Target BS. High bureaucracy and process driven culture, little emphasis on results. More on interpersonal skills and highly political.
@zVjh74 thanks for your input. Did you work at Target Minneapolis before? While making an offer and throughout the interview process they were very welcoming and vp of engineering was especially focusing on their culture. He is like I want you to meet the team and feel the culture. Any idea how's their EMIP training?
