Hi, Working women in Tech industry with almost all team members as very young, intern or no kids or just married ready to work day and night. How do you manage as even though you are senior but since the other team members are working too much you are looked down. We have responsibility of home and kids and not that we are not doing our job but we can't find extra time to do extra to be in line with them. Anyone faced similar issue?
Delegate and prioritize as much as you can. Here is what has been working for me 1. Got a cook to come everyday to make breakfast and dinner 2. Make use of gadgets Roomba, dishwasher etc. 3. My husband and I share rest of the house work 50/50 With this i get enough time and energy to spend quality time with my kid and also work (if i want to) after she goes to sleep at night
Another trick is to answer all important emails very early in the morning when you wake up. This way all people whose opinions matter for your promotion will think of you as morning overtimer.
I have noticed married male coworkers usually choose to transfer to a different team that has better wlb...
Try to find a place with a culture / team dynamic that aligns better with your values.
Other team members working too much is not a problem and is likely to happen in any other team you may go to. You should look at what is important to the company (or your management team). If all they care about is long hours, find yourself a more reasonable place. If management is not a problem and your problem is with perception of co-workers alone, you can actively correct it. Participate in technical conversations / discussions with them - your experience is bound to show. Bring up anecdotes about how you solved a relevant problem x years ago. If you all share a codebase, you are bound to notice things not done in an efficient / scalable manner - use this opportunity to gently provide face to face feedback. All these things will assert your seniority and knowledge. People will see what you bring to the table. Number of hours you work will not even be a question.
Delegate all non-value add activities at home and at work. (e.g. Have a nanny, cook, etc + a contractor for admin stuff) Still, every minute is a struggle to get the prioritisation right, but it is possible on the whole. (I am assuming you share house duties ~50/50 with your partner.) Also, it takes courage to have more than one kid as a mother in this sector...

Focus on using your seniority to deliver a better quality and look down at young. They work overtime because they can't solve problems fast enough yet, so they have to make 2-5 attempts to make things right, while you need just one. Tell your boss that you're ready to mentor them.
'look down at Young'. Oh boy. Maybe try and work with people instead of looking down at them? What you said about mentorship is on point, but I highly doubt you can be an effective mentor with such a mindset.
Thanks for lesson, yoda
