I am a Chinese citizen, and have been working as a Data scientist for a couple of years. Wanting to move to Silicon Valley, I sent out my resume to 10 comps in the Bay Area. It has been one week and yet no one wants to proceed my application. Wondering, is it normal? I have a PH.D. Degree in CS. Is it wrong with my background or they are afraid of the logics I’d apply visa for foreigners? Please help me.
Patience, dude. Just one week and your resume might still be backlogged in HR system, considering how many resumes they receive each day.
Local talent is sufficient.
It’s a really tough market for H1B right now and it breaks my heart everyday. I had several companies willing to sponsor 6 months ago and today nothing. It hasn’t happened in months. I keep hearing insider info from larger companies that used to sponsor that they now don’t. So yeah. It’s a really tough market and it’s not personal. You are also too late for this year’s lottery. You should have been hired and started working with a lawyer in February. It’s unlikely to work out in time for this upcoming lottery so it would be 1.5 years before you could work for the company. In terms of help- apply to larger US companies and then you can transfer on an L1 after a year and a half. Then there’s no lottery! You will be bound to the company until you get your green card but some are good and apply for H1B’s every year. You can make it part of negotiations. Hope that helps! Don’t be discouraged. I’m sure you’re a great candidate- it’s just a tough political climate.
You can check with Amazon if they would file for your H1B and then move to bay area. Else you can move to bay area with Amazon on an L1 visa. However as mentioned above you'll be stuck with Amazon on L1 until you get your green card
Thanks. Think I will negotiate for h1b before receiving any offer.
Try to get referrals. Direct applications are usually given low priority
If you haven't heard from any of them, respectfully, I guess your background might not be outstanding. H1B might not be relevant.
Check if Amazon can transfer you on L1B and file GC in EB1 as you've PhD. If that happens you'll have a GC in 2-3 years and you'll be out of vicious visa cycle
Did you mention in CV or application that you need visa?
Maybe you need to have someone review your resume. Also ask people on LinkedIn to refer you if you have connections, if not start building connections.
Could be any reason. Are you asking people to speculate on your behalf?
I am asking about the general situation. Such as, comps don’t want foreigner to be there scientist.
