Tech interviewing is so broken. Candidates are made to do an online coding session and a separate take home exercise and then coding onsite again. Aren't the first two rounds giving you enough glimpse of my coding ability and problem solving ability. And what's this BS of writing code on whiteboard that compiles. Explain the logic please. Ask real world problems that matter that come up at your workplace. Any person can slog 6 months and Ace your interview if it is like an exam and still be a crappy programmer. Ask design and projects that they worked on. That shows their true potential and contribution. Don't just do it because Google did it.
If u want the $$ then buck up , else there are enough companies that interview without the coding which don’t pay as much $
Yeah it’s broken but there’s no better alternative. Anyone can just read up on designs and projects and come up with BS for interviews...so how is that a better benchmark?
Blame Gayle Mcdowell. She's profiting off the interview process and it's not going to end anytime soon.
Does anyone buy CTCI? CTCI Hard is leetcode easy or medium at most lol.
Life was still ok with CTCI, leetcode just basically made life crazy for everyone!
Not saying you’re wrong, but I don’t think that anybody can just “slog 6 months and Ace your interview”. Most people don’t have the stamina and/or ability.
I think what he meant was you can get by without knowing much abt software engineering and brushing up ur data ds&algos to clear the interviews
Interviews should be designed to make slogging through leetcode entirely useless.
It is broken. When I got my first job way back then, my degree was a testament to my abilities. The questions were geared in assessing one's character and integrity. Later in life, at subsequent job interviews, the questions revolved around making a compelling argument at why a particular approach was taken in solving a particular problem. This new method of code writing is quite insulting to say the least.
Things have changed dramatically since the days before Google interviews. There are enormous gaps between what Stanford and Montana State have for CS curriculums. You can't just assume a CS degree is enough anymore and the elites don't graduate enough people to fill the need. Until someone has a better system, this one has proven the best to avoid false positives.
Bro, leetcode is love. Leetcode is life. And that is how it shall remain for infinity and beyond.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏🏽
online coding session is necessary to identify skills, take home is too much in my opinion, maybe it can be limited to 2 hr assignment whiteboard is good way for design questions for coding test laptop with projector is better option
I thought a graduate degree was enough to identify skills
Ya I have buckled up unfortunately and prepped well. But I have proposed an alternative which can work.
There aren’t as many good interviewees as well as the demand of swe. Add that to the reasons why leetcode is a little more standard

Lol. You seem to be new to this industry
Dude i am here since 12 years in industry. It's just that I got back to interviewing after 7 years and noticed that is a swamp.
The landscape changed in the last 5 years. No, politics is not the only fucked up thing in the US anymore
