Telecom Account Executive. Referrals for new opportunities

Hi guys, I am an Account Executive at Sprint (NYC). I am a top performer blowing out my quota consistently over 450% every month. As an AE at Sprint I sell telecom (obviously) and SaaS solutions such as 365, Gsuite, and cyber security solutions. My salary is very low $49,600 however I am on target to make $175,000 this year. I have closed multiple big deals but I am feeling severely underpaid and want to make a move. I don’t want to do anything else but sell, I absolutely love sales. I want to transition to an AE role at Microsoft, Salesforce, Oracle, AWS, Slack, ProofPoint, Box, DropBox, and so on. I have been applying but struggling to get interviews. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I have 4 years experience as an AE split between AT&T and Sprint. I would appreciate any career advice and would even be happy to meet up for coffee sometime for those in NYC. I really want to stay in sales and do not want a management position. Thoughts? Thanks again!

Hey I feel your pain and have been trying to switch to SaaS also. I was in telecomm and bounced to payments because I thought that was better. From my experience it is very hard closing the deal because recruiters want people with 100% SaaS experience in their previous role. I have had interviews at SFDC, and other big companies like that and that is what the recruiters have told me. The ACV is anywhere between 25000-100000 and they want examples of that in your previous role. You can lock down a 300 line account, but They want an apples to apples comparison when looking at candidates. Its good to know its not just me. But i know how you feel.

Agreed, funny enough I got a promotion last week and a pay bump. I used an offer I had as leverage. They moved me to Senior AE with 80k base. OTE is 145. Hopefully next year if I put up my same numbers I can break 250k. I know I’m still at a very low salary compared to SaaS companies. I’m going to keep trying to break into other industries.
