Hi Engineers (especially high earning one's) Since we are here to help each other, please share in which domain of IT/CS you work and base salary + TC. This would help us to choose domain to focus more. TC 40k, 6 yoe (EU company) UPD: I see comments suggesting moving to US, of course this might triple everything, but I want to know about domain knowledge in general, not bounded to location. Suppose I will be in US in 3 years, but I want to pick up domain knowledge from now on. Personally I am interested in payments domain, where Uber has jobs in Netherlands.
Used to be in the EU making 40k a year. Moved to the US and instantly 3.5x my salary being in Texas. Could be even more in other areas.
LC domain is hot these days
Oil and gas pays well. You might be dealing with some older tech but there is a lot of potential. Personally, I don’t think domain knowledge is super important. At the end of the day as SWE we are always moving letters and numbers around, it doesn’t matter what they mean.
Pay is more about company rather than by domain in SWE. But to be good in SWE you should probably know the new stuff well. I will day though that Infrastructure and distributed systems would be domains which are harder and may be in higher demand as fewer folks know it. Base 210k
Move to the US is a good start. Could 8x your TC
