Got an amazing offer to Google.

This site is amazing.. I found so much information here, interview prep, leetcode, which books to read, interview process at each company, experiences, etc. also shoutout to rooftop slushie which was surprisingly helpful when I was preparing for specific interviews and negotiating salary.

new TC 240K

If it is 240K for L4 SWE in bay area then it is not amazing offer. If it is L3 offer in bay area then it is amazing offer.

      Did about 300 LC [20/50/30]
I ended up getting leetcode premium
Some good tips for approaching leetcode: I eased into it with lc easy, put a lot of weight on medium and try to challenge myself with hard. If you can't solve a problem, don't look at the answer. Skip it and work on another one. I'll come back to the question and give it another try. Try to look for hints. If you still can't answer, look at the answer. Come back to the question again a month later and give it another try. Before you look at any answers, always remember to try it first.

Read Cracking the Coding Interview and Computer Science Distilled. Also took Grokking the System Design Interview course. Watched a ton of cs-related youtube videos in my spare time.

After getting LC out of the way, I wanted to get an idea of what the criteria was. I foudn a hiring manager on rooftop slushie. They took a look at my resume and gave me a referral. I also got some help regarding the behavioral portion, things like what they're looking for, what qualities I should present, and what kind of personal experiences to bring up.

This is very useful and inspiring Krepton. I’m currently struggling at work and hoping to jump ship in a few months.

Going to target MSFT, GOOG etc. and just needed to see something like this today to get me out of my rut.

You can do it but you need persistence and lots of interview practice if you want to get into Google or Facebook. To give you some unbelievable context I have solved 2500+ LC-style questions compared to others who solve some 200ish questions

      Nov 17

It took a few years as I used to interview every year. I have my own way of revisiting every interesting idea I came across so my preparation is always cumulative.

2500+ is a ridiculously high number but it shows how persistence, hard work and resilience pays off.

I did 300+ to get my Amazon gig as I was out of college for 3+ years and has forgotten the basics but I’ll keep this in mind!

Thanks again for sharing your insight!

Join before Jan 1st. Otherwise they won't give you refresher for the first year. This is a new rule and it sucks. If you start on Dec 31 2019, you'll get it. If you start on Jan 1, 2020, you got to wait 2 years for the first refresher.
    Nov 15 10
    • Google Krepton
March and September. Refreshers are in January. Yes.
      Nov 26
    • Google EnterNight
No. You don't get refresher first year. Now if you join Dec 2019 that means you'll get your first refresher early 2021 but if you join Jan. 2020, your first refresher will be early 2022 instead. So just one month makes difference of getting the first refresher in 1 year or 2 years.
      Nov 26
    • Google Krepton
I don’t think the OP meant that they will get a refresher for the two weeks they worked in Dec. bottom line it is best to join Dec rather than Jan to get a refresher

Congrats OP. Blind, levels.fyi and H1b check were my best discoveries of the past few years in terms of career. I'm not even in the US (Europe based), but just the knowledge of what my bay area colleagues make put a fire in my belly to get at least a better slice of the pie than the average employee in my location, especially because I've a pretty broad and rare set of skills regardless of location. Knowing a US peer who isn't necessarily as productive or impactful might make 3-5x what I make, I'm not shy about pushing for more.

      I don’t see a H1B check . What are you referring to ?
      Nov 16
    • Roku moggers
Sorry - i meant https://h1bdata.info/ - which in many ways is the most reliable indicator of base salaries imho, because there's no chance of embellishment there. If anything, that's probably a good way to find the lower bound on salaries. American workers likely make more I guess. Either way, eye opening stuff.
