Thank you Uber recruiter.

Thank you Uber recruiter.

You fucking told me 2 years back that $48.77 was just the beginning for the stock price and if I thought all the growth was "baked into" it then I shouldn't join. Sky was the limit.

Bonus? Sky was the limit. "For someone with your level and experience the average bonus paid out was very close to 6 figures.. you just had to exceed expectations (should be easy I thought based on my track record)".

Growth/Promo - Sky was the limit.

Why don't you join us with a below average base and look at all the other immeasurable part of the TC??

So I did.

Well fast forward to today I have lost 40% of my equity value. My bonus last year was <$10K

So THIS time when I heard recruiters give me the same pitch about "your level's average at G/Lyft/Aapl is a little low but your bonus potential and equity potential is unlimited" I told those guys to take a hike.

Got 2 revised offers which actually look a world apart from what was offered in the beginning.

Fuck you Uber recruiter.

Lol. 4.5 years ago, I was told by an Uber recruiter that the company will be $1T in next 5 years. 6 more months left and around $940B short.

As I always say, you can trust a car salesperson but never a recruiter.

Heh, I am always like big base or go away.
As a matter of fact, dont give me stock (or maybe a little stock) or sign on bonus, but put all that shit in base.
That's how they get you. Fack dat

The stock is low, the taxes are lower. Then comes capital gain, which is much lower than income.

fair enough. What if stock does not grow? (Btw, tax on long term capital gains is lower than on regular income)

@domin8: I don't think you understand how RSU based income works. From a tax perspective, having $500k base and $0 RSU income is same as having $200k base and $300k RSU income. Both are taxed at ordinary income tax rates.

Not all recruiters fault. Like all the wall st people back 4 years ago, they thought the company was going to grow fast too.

I am not sure I understand.

    - A salesman attempted to sell something to you.
    - You evaluated, and bought what was being sold.
    - Time passes by and you don't like what you bought.
    - Now the salesman is an asshole?

'if I thought all the growth was "baked into" it then I shouldn't join' - clearly you didn't think all the growth was baked into it.

I understand your frustration, but, they are doing their job to pitch the company to close candidates. They are not CEO of companies or financial analysts for you to trust their word and join just because of what they said. All company valuations, especially private company valuations are subject to change with time. Grow up and take ownership of your decision to join.

I had a recruiter straight up lie to my face. He was trying to sell me on free internet and phone plan and I told him that it requires manager approval. I have no business need for either but he guaranteed me I could get it. Turns out I was right :(
