There are many people who are smarter than you and work harder than you. And that, much like the rate of expansion of the universe, the gap between you and those people are accelerating and not closing. The nail on the coffin is that those people are dime a dozen and going to the same fang interviews you are going to next week, or competing for the same promotions you are going for this year. This is when you realize you are doomed( ie, fucked )
not true for fang at least
For sure not true for faang
Have you ever been checked for depression?
Go get rub and tug
With happy ending!
Why are people so fang focused? There are lots of good companies to work for.
Good company not always == good pay
The fact that there are people that are smarter than me and work harder than me is not a realization. I'm happy with who I am and the cards I've been dealt. You should probably talk to a professional.
I disagree with the notion that these people are dime-a-dozen. The kind of genuinely impressive worth-gold future genius is very rare, I'd say about 1 in 200 in an average tech company, 1 in 50 at FANG. I know because I went to a very prestigious and competitive high school program and know literal geniuses. I'm talking Stanford/Berkeley/Yale types hitting 200k TC at age 22. I also know a lot of very, very mediocre people working at FANG. Also disagree with the assumption that their rate of hard work is linear. It's a marathon not a sprint.
If your metric is 200k by 22, it's way higher than 1/50 at FANG.
That's not my metric. I don't think 200k at 22 is a reliable metric of genius. What about the grad student at Stanford who goes on to invent the next Google? I don't think there's any reliable measure of lifetime achievement until age 40.
Sure, you don't get to be top 1%, or even top 5%. You can still do pretty well being top 10-20%.
There will always be people smarter and dumber than you. What matters is how much you are at peace with yourself.
