70% of traffic is now from ârecommended for youâ algorithms be it on Twitter, youtube, or Facebook. 2 billion users worldwide means that is a fuckload of people being influenced by it. YouTube algorithms would recommend anorexia videos to young women who looked for a diet video. Flat earth / anti vaccine theory videos are recommended to anyone even questioning something slightly, feeding crazy theories. Drinking all the water in a glass tells you to stop drinking subconsciously. Never-ending-scroll on feeds and pull to refresh act as a slot machine to get you addicted. A single negative controversial buzzword can boost traffic by 17%. So companies emphasize negativity to drive more ad traffic etc
This guy is BS and tries to equate this to the legendary Mr Rogers talk before congress? He seems to be a fear mongerer on Tech. He does state correct bits about how some things work, but then draws conclusions that are completely disconnected. He said he was a magician and it shows in the misdirections applied.
