I've been with Amazon for not long and I am already thinking about finding a new job. The thing holding me back is I will need to forfeit my sign on and pay up relocation if I leave before the 2 year mark. Curious if anyone here left Amazon before their 2 year mark? How did you deal with forgoing your sign on and paying back relocation?
They probably won't chase you for that.
They WILL. There is a team just doing that!!!!
They totally will. Google “thefaceofamazon” as there are examples on that blog.
What you have to pay back is prorated
Why not switch teams?
Stay out for it longer until it's 2 yr time
Why do you need to repay all the amount? Do you get the sign-on upfront? Is it just sign-on and relocation or other expenses as well?
Amazon will pursue you for the relocation costs. The worse part is that your resume will take a big hit. If you’re at Amazon for less than a year, you might as well leave it off your resume. You will look like an obvious failure to have a name like Amazon for such a short period. You don’t want that, trust me. Tough it out, it will serve you well.
Don’t do it
Isnt sign on bonus included in your pay check and not given upfront? In that case, its always prorated, so if you leave you wont have to return anything! Did I miss something to read in their offer letter?
In my contract I would only need to pay back the pro-rated portion of the signing bonus if I leave before 1 year, not 2.
