Thoughts on Shopify
Planning to move away from the Bay Area and focus on QoL (I’m open to returning after a few (4-5) years). I’m very interested in Shopify (and Ottawa). I like what I’ve found about Shopify and Ottawa seems nice (though cold). I’m an Indian and won’t have to deal with the visa issues either. I’m fine with the drop in TC. What could go wrong?
Probably the best company to work for in Canada. The only negatives are the TC and atrocious weather

I moved from the US (to mtl though not Ottawa) and it was very worth it. TC is still really good and stock grants are in USD. Also afaik Shopify’s engineering really has its shit together compared to most other tech companies including faang.
Thank you! What are the engineering levels like? I see Lead and Sr. Lead positions. Which of those map to Staff Engineer/E6 levels?
They just reorganized eng levels for ICs recently so job postings might not be 100% up to date. Now there’s dev, senior dev, staff dev, senior staff, and principal dev.
How much does a senior person in the user experience team make at Shopify Toronto office?

No. I am serious. Shop is killing it. Growth is nuts. Stock price has doubled. Acquisition rumors are swirling. I am a huge fan.
