L3 has a practice of requiring both badge-ins and badge-outs from buildings on site. from this, they calculate how many hours you were there. This is cross-checked against the time reporting system. when discrepancies are found, employees face everything from warnings to termination.

But the badge system times are hidden from employees. that means you have to keep up with your time yourself, and even work over, if you want to avoid the time police. this is true for everything from hourly staff to professional staff. Does it seen right that they're using this as a physical time card system but without the ability to see what time is being printed on your card? it causes a lot of stress for people.

other thoughts? would you want to work in an enviroment like that?

So you can badge in at 8, do almost nothing all day, and badge out at 6, and you're considered a hard working employee?

on the other hand we've got an engineer here earning 150k who does nothing or close to nothing (takes a week to finish one small petty task, generally), comes in every day at noon and takes off anywhere from 3 to 5. it makes everyone else disgusted that they put in effort and earn the same, so they also start taking liberties. I think the laid back culture can also be toxic.

They are probably friends with Management and have been there a while. Lots of places I have worked have this sort of shield for longer term employees who know they can slack off without retribution.
